Attachments: Each interossei originates from a medial or lateral surface of a metacarpal, and attaches into the extensor hood and proximal phalanx of same finger.
Actions: Adduction of the digits. Assists in flexion at the metacarpophalangeal joints and extension at the interphalangeal joints.
Attachments:
One head originates from the third metacarpal.
The other head originates from the capitate and adjacent areas of second and third metacarpal.
Both heads attach onto the base of the proximal phalanx of the thumb.
Actions:
Adduction of the thumb.
Attachments: Originates from the proximal aspect of the lateral supracondylar ridge of humerus. It attaches to the distal end of the radius, just proximal to the radial styloid process.
Actions: Flexion at the elbow. Contributes to supination at the proximal radioulnar joint.
Originates from the proximal aspect of the lateral supracondylar ridge of humerus. It attaches to the distal end of the radius, just proximal to the radial sytyloid process.
Actions: Flexion at the elbow. Contributes to supination at the proximal radioulnar joint
Attachments: Originates from the anterior surface of the ulna and attaches to the anterior surface of the radius.
Actions: Pronates the forearm.
Extensor Digiti Minimi
Attachments: Originates from the lateral epicondyle of the humerus. It attaches into the extensor hood of the little finger.
Actions: Extension of the little finger, and weak extensor at the wrist.
Rectus Femoris
Attachments: One head originates from the anterior inferior iliac spine and other from the supra-acetabular groove (of the ilium). The two heads converge into one tendon which inserts onto the patella via the quadriceps femoris tendon. The patella is then attached to the tibial tuberosity by the patella ligament.
Actions: Extension of the knee joint and flexion of the hip joint
Biceps Femoris
Attachments: Long head originates from the ischial tuberosity of the pelvis. Short head originates from the Linea aspera on posterior surface of the femur. The two heads form a tendon which inserts onto the head of the fibula.
Actions: Flexion and lateral rotation of the knee. Weak extensor and lateral rotator of the thigh.
Gastrocnemius
Attachments: The lateral head originates from the lateral femoral condyle. The medial head originates from the medial femoral condyle. The two heads combine to form a single muscle belly. Distally, the muscle belly converges with the soleus muscle to form the calcaneal tendon. This inserts onto the calcaneus.
Actions: Plantarflexion at the ankle joint and flexion at the knee joint.
